"Students need relevance, rigor and relationships to succeed. They have the right to learn at their own pace and to accelerate when they have mastered the material. They have the right to work with intellectual peers and to be taught by teachers who are scholars in their subjects. They have the right to engage in discussions and to ask questions. Ideally, they should be able to work with a mentor to explore topics that they are passionate about.

I believe that gifted and talented education improves regular education by providing talent development opportunities for all students and specialized programs for gifted and talented learners. Rather than focusing on testing and remediation, we should focus on developing each student’s gifts and talents.

Gifted and talented students need to understand their strengths and weaknesses and to develop scholarly behavior to be successful in school and in life."
